Katrin Edelmann (Contralto, Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Meiningen, Thuringia, Germany

The German contralto/mezzo-soprano, Katrin Edelmann, studied with Professor Kurt Widmer in Basel, Professor Rosemarie Bühler-Fey in Saarbrücken and Andrea Rottmann in Berlin / Würzburg. In addition, she received significant artistic impulses in master-classes, for example with Magreet Honig, Ute Trekel-Burckhardt, Kurt Widmer and Barbara Bonney, and as a participant in the Internationalen Sommerakademie Mozarteum in Salzburg.

In the field of concert singing, Katrin Edelmann has developed a wide-ranging repertoire that ranges from early Baroque literature to Romanticism to Contemporary music. She is very fond of Baroque music, especially the vocal works of J.S. Bach. As part of her concert activities, she sang the great alto parts from J.S. Bach's Passions (BWV 244, BWV 245), B minor Mass (BWV 232), oratorios and cantatas, George Frideric Handel's Messiah, W.A. Mozart' Requiem and works for solo alto by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi and Antonio Vivaldi.

Katrin Edelmann has sung with orchestras such as the Göttinger Symphonie Orchester, Bruckner Akademie Orchester München under the artistic direction of the renowned Spanish conductor Jordi Mora, with the Meininger Residenzorchester, the Baroque orchestras Soli Deo Gloria and Prattica di musica, Consortium musicale Würzburg, Kammerorchester Pfaffenhofen and Mitteldeutschen Kammerorchester. She has performed at the Thüringer Bachwochen, Internationalen Musikfestival Kissinger Sommer, Meininger Bachkantatenprojekt and Rhöner Orgelsommer and could also be heard live on the radio in other European countries.

Katrin Edelmann works closely with the Kammerorchester Bad Kissingen. With this, under the direction of KMD Jörg Wöltche, she performed A. Vivaldi's Stabat mater for solo alto and string orchestra in the Max Littmann Saal des Regentenbaus Bad Kissingen, which is considered one of the best concert halls in Europe. On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, she could be heard under the direction of Regionalkantor Peter Rottmann as a soloist in two special concerts in G.F. Handel's Messiah at the Wartburg in Eisenach.

In addition to sacred music, Katrin Edelmann is also passionate about Lieder. She has recently made a name for herself as a Lied singer with carefully selected programs
