Camerata Antiqua de Curitiba translates the sound that celebrates the city, becoming over its 46 years of existence one of the local musical symbols. Made up of Choir and Orchestra, it was born in 1974, under the aegis of the talent of its founders, Roberto de Regina - today its emeritus conductor - and harpsichordist Ingrid Müller Seraphim. The initial proposal for the exclusive performance of Baroque and Renaissance music has been enriched with the addition of a repertoire of contemporary national and foreign composers.
Maintained by the Fundação Cultural de Curitiba (Cultural Foundation of Curitiba) and managed by the Instituto Curitiba de Arte e Cultura (Curitiba Institute of Art and Culture), Camerata has a history of achievements and successes on the national and international scene. Along this route, Camerata was led by notable musicians, such as counter-tenor Gerard Galloway and violinist Paulo Bosísio, responsible for a long period of technical guidance for the Choir and the Orchestra. Between 1987 and 1988, Lutero Rodrigues became its Principal Conductor.
Since its creation, Camerata has been guided by Conselho Artístico (Artistic Council), with the exception of the period from 2009 to 2011, when Wagner Polistchuk was Artistic Director. The musical maturity achieved by Camerata in more than four decades of performance is recorded on eight LP's and six CD's, with works by great composers of universal classical music. Among the numerous cultural action concerts held between 1990 and 2000, the following stand out: the program “Curitiba Abraça o Paraná”; in 1995, the organization of the Asunción-Paraguay City Anniversary Concert, at the Paraguay-Japan Cultural Center; in 1996, concerts in Washington, at the invitation of the Inter-American Development Bank, held at its headquarters and at the Brazilian Embassy, as well as at the Epiphany Church. In Brazil, on April 22, 2000, Cameraa had an important participation in the Commemorations of the 500 Years of the discovery of the country, in Porto Seguro - Bahia.
The concern with social issues has also marked Camerata's performance over the years. The programs “Música pela Vida”, “Alimentando com Música” and “Concerto nas Igrejas” have established a strong socio-educational and cultural bond with the Curitiba community.
