Cappella Vocale St. Aposteln, Köln (Chamber Choir)

Founded: Köln (Cologne), Germany

In addition to the Chorgemeinschaft (Choral Society), which Elmar Hausmann has founded in 1973, from the St. Aposteln regular operating soloists and musical singers the vocal ensemble Capella Vocale St. Apostles was developed.

Since 1988, Friedhelm Hohmann is the musical director of the chamber choir, consisting currently of 24 singers. The Cappella has performed - alternating with the Chorgemeinschaft - many solemn liturgies at the solemnities of the liturgical year. In addition, they prepare demanding music and presents them in their concerts. Concerts of the music performed in the worship were broadcast on radio and television ARD, WDR and DLF.

The musical range includes works of five centuries. The focus is on classical vocal polyphony of the 16th and 17th centuries, and the a cappella literature of the 19th and 20th centuries.
