Celebrating its 49th season in 2018, Capitol Chamber Artists (= CCA) has established a national and international reputation for musical excellence through live performance and recording. In March 1989 Capitol Chamber Artists made its New York City debut to critical acclaim at Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall. “...Chamber debut at Carnegie grand.” CCA received one of the first National Endowment for the Arts consortium commissioning grants to commission composers Andrew Imbrie and George Walker to write works for the ensemble. Capitol Chamber Artists’ CD recording of works written for the group was released in 1991 on Centaur Records and is distributed throughout the USA, Europe, Asia, Canada and Australia. Fanfare Magazine’s review of the CD disc states, “dramatically convincing...well coordinated...proportion of worthwhile items is uncommonly high.” In 1995 Albany Records released a new CD of Capitol Chamber Artists performing Pulitzer Prize composer, George Walker’s Poem for soprano and chamber ensemble. CCA has received a New York State Council on the Arts Challenge Grant to record the 12 Haydn (Salomon chamber transcription) London Symphonies in a four CD's recording on Centaur Records.
CCA performs over 100 concerts each year in New York. Capitol Chamber Artists is on the roster of the New York Foundation for the Arts Artists in Residence Program. CCA was in residence for two summers at the Jazz To Classics Festival in Fairbanks, Alaska. CCA has been heard on National Public Radio Performance Today. As a winner of the 2002 Society for Historically Informed Performance concert competition, Capitol Chamber Artists performed on the SoHIP summer series at Weston, Massachusetts, Topsfield, Massachusetts and Emmanuel Church in Boston, Massachusetts.
Capitol Chamber Artists’ performers are among the finest. These artists of international stature have performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Charlotte Symphony and Opera Orchestras, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Symphony of the Air, American Ballet Theater, New York City Opera and Metropolitan Opera. |
