Oleg Bryjak (Bass)

Born: October 27, 1960 - Jezkazgan, Kazakh SSR, Soviet Union (now Kazakhstan)
Died: March 24, 2015 - Prads-Haute-Bléone, France

The Kazakhstanian bass, Oleg Bryjak ((Ukrainian: Олег Брижак), studied at the Music Academy and at the Conservatory of Alma-Ata. He gained first theatrical experiences with appearances with the St Petersburg National Philharmonic Concert Hall, as well as with appearances in France and Germany. In 1990 he won the 2nd Prize at the International Silvia-Geszty Singing Competition in Stuttgart.

Oleg Bryjak moved to Germany in 1991. From 1991 to 1996, he was engaged at the National Theatre of Baden in Karlsruhe. Here he sang among other things. Bartolo and Basilio in the Rossini's Il Barbiere Di Siviglia, Timur in Puccini’s Turandot, Dulcamara in Donizetti’s L'elisir D'amore, Fra Melitone in Verdi’s La Forza Del Destino, Schigolch in Alban Berg’s Lulu and Alberich in Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen. Besides he made guest appearances in Paris, Zürich, Bonn, Wiesbaden and Berlin and gave concerts in Hamburg, Köln, Bonn and Nürnberg. Since the 1996-1997 season, he was an ensemble member of Deutschen Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf/Duisburg. Here he sang roles such as Leporello in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni, den Vater in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel Und Gretel, Alidoro in La Cenerentola and Jago in Otello. He made his debut at Wiener Staatsoper in 1998 as Alberich.

Oleg Bryjak died on March 24, 2015 along with his colleague Maria Radner when Germanwings Flight 9525 crashed in Prads-Haute-Bléone, France, during their return from performances of Richard Wagner's Siegfried at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.
