Born: Halbinsel Eiderstedt in Nordfriesland, Germany

The German contralto, Ulrike Andersen, Grew up in Halbinsel Eiderstedt in Nordfriesland. She studied music education and singing at the Hochschule der Künste, Berlin. She also received singing training with Professor Jutta Schlegel, and took master-classes with Kurt Widmer, Anna Reynolds and Margreet Honig.

Already during her studies Ulrike Andersen sang solo parts in opera productions at the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg and the Neuen Opernbühne Berlin. She has wide concert repertoire with emphasis on Baroque music and modern times. She is a member in special ensembles for new music. She has co-operated with conductors such as Ingo Metzmacher, Ivor Bolton, Philippe Herreweghe, René Jacobs and Marcus Creed. Since December 2002 she is active as free-lancer. She Lives in Berlin and Zürich. In July 2003 she participated at the successful premiere of the opera Invocation by Beat Furrer at the Furrer Zürcher Opernhaus under the direction of Christoph Marthaler.
