Johannes Oettel was a German bass singer and singing teacher, active mainly in Leipzig. He taught at the Thomasschule and was conductor of the school orchestra. As a singer he sang mainly sacred works, under such conductors as Thomaskantors Karl Straube (before World War II) and Günther Ramin (after the War). He married Charlotte Wolf in 1933. Since 1940 he was in the German army; then in Russian captivity; in 1949 he came back home. He died in 1954 from pancreatic carcinoma. |
