Since its founding on New Year's Day 2017, the Walkenried Consort has brought together young singers from all over Germany. They share a passion for performing sophisticated choral music at the highest level. In addition to the Walkenried Consort, they are active in renowned ensembles such as Vox Luminis (Director: Lionel Meunier), Tenebrae (Director: Nigel Short), Vokalensemble Lauschwerk, and the RIAS-Kammerchor (Director: Justin Doyle).
Originally founded as a project by friends inspired by their passion for making music together, the Walkenried Consort has developed into a semi-professional ensemble that performs challenging yet moving programs at a wide variety of venues.
The Walkenried Consort's main focus remains the Kloster Walkenried, which gives the concert its musical home and where, among other things, J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245 has been performed with the Cappella Jenensis. The consort has also performed at the Golden Autumn in Meiningen and is a regular guest in the Rhein-Neckar-Dreieck and Munich. A preliminary highlight was the performance of Igor Stravinsky's Les Noces and Lilly Boulanger's Psalm 130 together with the Ensemble Vodeon in Munich's Herkulessaal.
The young musicians' explicit goal is to work on the works together and develop a shared musical vision. Therefore, the consort does not have a permanent musical director, but instead works with a rotating cast of conductors, including David Preil, Clayton Bowman, and Niklas Sikner. The deep friendship that grew out of the intensive engagement with the music noticeably shapes the Walkenried Consort's special charisma. |
