The Hungarian harpsichordist and conductor, Augustin Szokos, graduated from the composition department of the Bartók Conservatory (Bartók Konzervatórium) in Budapest; then as a student of Tamás Gál, András Ligeti and Ádám Medveczky at the Academy of Music (Zeneakadémia); in 2015 he obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in conducting. During his conservatory years, he studied harpsichord and chamber music, and attended master-classes by world-renowned performers, including Rachel Podger, Simon Standage, Barthold Kuijken, Jordi Savall, Michel Laplénie and György Vashegyi.
In 2009, at the age of 17, Augustin Szokos founded his first ensemble the Budapest Bach Consort, which played contemporary instruments. With this ensemble he has been giving regular concerts ever since. As a harpsichordist and organist, he has been a member of the Budapest Orfeo Orchestra and the Musica Profana Early Music Ensemble since 2013, and regularly performs in concerts of instrumental and modern symphony orchestras of various ages.
Since 2012, he has been producing modern scores and performance materials from manuscript sources for the Purcell Choir and Orfeo Orchestra, which can be linked to several modern world premieres and recordings. |
