Aliocha Solovera (Conductor)

Born: May 8, 1963 - Santiago, Región Metropolitana de Santiago, Chile

The Chilean conductor, composer, and music pedagogue, Aliocha Solovera Roje, obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Music Pedagogy degree (1988) and his Bachelor of Ats degree in Composition (1991) from the the Ljubljana University of Music (Univerza Edvarda Kardelja v Ljubljani), Slovena; and his Master in Art degree in Composition from the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien, Austria (1993), on a scholarship from the Alban Berg Foundation and the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research.

Since 1987, Aliocha Solovera has had a number of public presentations of his works in many parts of Europe and elsewhere in the world (Ljubljana, Viena, Copenhagen, Zagreb, Bucharest, Koln, Frankfurt, Den Haag, Madrid, Santiago de Chile, Sao Paulo, Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Mexico C.F., Melbourne and others) and he has had recorded for different radio stations such as: ORF-Austrian National Radio, WDR-West Germany Radio, HR Hessichen Rundfunk,, RTV Ljubljana-National Slovenian Radio, Croatian HRT, Romanian RTV, Radio Cultura FM of Sao Paulo, Radio Beethoven -Santiago, Radio Universidad de Chile. He is the founder and director of the Ensamble Contemporáneo (Contemporary Ensemble), with which he has been instrumental in promoting contemporary music.

When still a student Aliocha Solovera has received a number of awards, including scholarship given by the Alban Berg Foundation, the Wurdigung award by the Austrian Ministry of Science (1993), Second Prize in the Slovene Republic’s First Musical Composition Contest (1993), Sao Paolo’s Lapandia Foundation Prize (2000), Chile’s Altazor Award for direction of the Ensamble Contemporaneo (2003), Charles Ives Prize from the Instituto Chileno Norteamericano. He is the founder and director of the Contemporary Ensemble, with which he has been instrumental in promoting contemporary music.

Presently Aliocha Solovera is a Full Professor of composition in the Faculty of Arts of the Catholic University of Chile. Since 1999, he conducts Ensamble Contemporaneo UC, Santiago Chile.
