Les Muses Chorale is a women’s choral ensemble affiliated with the Student’s Society of McGill University (SSMU). They began in 2001 as “Simply Sweetly,” a group of talented young women who created a McGill club to express their passion for fun and challenging choral music. The ensemble is comprised of between 30 and 40 voices and boast a repertoire of primarily twentieth and twenty-first-century music - music that speaks directly to their audience.
Since 2019, Gohar Manvelyan has served as the Artistic Director and Conductor of Les Muses Chorales. Under her leadership, the ensemble has been featured annually at the Night of Choirs event of Le Festival Bach de Montréal. Moreover, Les Muses Chorale became the first finalist of the Petrichor International Music Competition in the category “Large Ensemble Orchestras and Choirs” for their recording of Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria in 2022. In recognition of this achievement, the ensemble was awarded the Petrichor Records’ Publishing Award and recorded John Leavitt’s Missa Festiva as part of Petrichor Records’ Special Edition Series. The release of the upcoming album is scheduled for the fall of 2024. Under Gohar Manvelyan, Les Muses Chorale were invited to perform at McGill University’s commemoration event for the École Polytechnique massacre in December 2023.
Now in our 25th season, Les Muses Chorale is proud to be a vibrant ensemble dedicated to choral excellence. |
