Marburger Konzertchor (Choir)

Founded: 1970 - Marbug, Hesse, Germany
Ceased operation: 2019

The Marburger Konzertchor was a mixed choir that dealt with so-called serious music. During the lecture periods at the university, Siegfried Heinrich studied important works of music literature from all eras from the late Middle Ages to the modern era intensively once a week under his direction, mostly performing them with the choir in concerts in Marburg, in other cities (especially in Hesse) and on tours abroad to perform. The choral community included singers from several generations who worked in a wide variety of professions in their everyday lives, as well as young people in training, especially students. They all shared a common joy in choral music in sophisticated performance and the willingness to attend regular rehearsals.

The focal points of the choral work were the rehearsals and own performances of large oratorios in the large tutti choir in co-operation with important European orchestras (e.g. Virtuosi Brunenses, Sinfonia Silesia Kattowitz, Bachorchester Frankfurt/Main), often with vocal and instrumental soloists active throughout Europe. As a rule, three oratorios were offered in Marburg every year, which were always performed at well-known locations in other cities.

The Kammerchor des Marburger Konzertchore also sang a-cappella works or made music together with small instrumental groups. Every year, choir members were given the opportunity to participate in the opera choir in the Romanesque monastery ruins as part of the "Oper in der Bad Hersfelder Stiftsruine" (two to three weeks each in August, rehearsals from the end of July).

Some of the choral performances were radio and television recordings or live broadcasts by German and foreign stations. Vinyl records, CD's and video cassettes were also produced.

In Marburg, the Marburger Konzertchor also organized guest concerts (e.g. with symphony orchestras, chamber orchestras, vocal and instrumental groups and well-known organists). These concerts are also often conducted by Siegfried Heinrich.

The Marburg Concert Choir e.V. was a non-profit association. Its activity was organized by the board members and many volunteers from the choir. At the end of 2019, the choir announced its dissolution after 49 years.
