Ömer Aziz Kayhan (Conductor, Bass)

Born: Turkey

The Turkish-born conductor and bass singer, Ömer Aziz Kayhan, studied two years in Musical Theatre Programat Istanbul University State Conservatory (2014-2016). He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Music from Cornell University (August 2016-May 2020). Currently he studies for his Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester (since 2022; expected graduation: 2024). His conducting education started with Dr. Mark Shapiro at Juilliard Institute. He is engaged with the teachings of Nadia Boulanger and Narcis Bonet in keyboard harmony, counterpoint, and analysis. He attended Norfolk Chamber Festival, singing under the tutelage of Simon Carrington and student conductors. In December 2022 he rehearsed and conducted Eastman Repertory Singers in a student recital, teaching Turkish and German pronunciation, and exploring Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s harmonic universe, as well as additional composers.
