Alex Guebert (Music Director)

Born: March 26, 1988 - Orange, California, USA.

The American composer, arranger, clinician, percussionist, music director and music teacher, Alex Guebert, obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music - Perrcussion from Concordia University Irvine (2006-2010); and his Master of Music degree in Music Composition from California State University, Long Beach (2010-2013), where hHis graduate recital featured a 25-minute work for handbells, strings, and percussion, titled Ransom. He has studied conducting with Dr. Payn, Dr. Herbert Geisler (Concordia University Irvine), and Ramona Miller (former director of Cathedral Bells).

Alex Guebert has served as Professor of Music Theory I at Concordia University, Irvine (August-December 2012); Handbell Director at Immanuel Lutheran Church (January 2011-May 2013); Band Director of Soli Encore (September 2012-2016); Music Academy Instructor -- Percussion at Bethany Lutheran School (June 2013-May 2019); Director - Cathedral Bells (since October 2013) and Assistant Minister of Music (since July 2017) at St. John's Lutheran Church, Orange California. He leads three advanced-level handbell groups: Cathedral Bells of St. John's Lutheran Church in Orange, L.A. Bronze, and Concert Handbells at Concordia University Irvine.

Alex Guebert's award-winning handbell compositions and arrangements have been published and performed nationwide and overseas. His compositional style is a result of his background as a percussionist, his love of film and video game score, and his desire to broaden the horizons of handbell repertoire. Some of his most recent forays into the national scene of handbells include teaching classes at Handbell Musicians of America national and local seminars and leading several mass ring events. His recent piece, Out of the Silent Planet, won the Bellsof the Cascades (Portland, Oregon) 25th Anniversary Composition Contest and was played at Distinctly Bronze East in 2017 under the baton of Dr. William Payn.

Alex Guebert He teaches music classes and leads band programs at schools in Orange County, and has taught several mallet technique and percussion classes at handbell seminars in Pennsylvania, Wyoming, and California. He lives in Orange with his wife Heather (they married in 2014), a scientist, and baby daughter Emma Joy, who shares her dad's love of music and her mom's scientific curiosity about the world! He spends most of his free time adventuring with his wife, bicycling around Southern California.
