The Discanto Vocal Ensemble is a chamber vocal group formed in 1990 under the guidance of Maestro Giorgio Brenna. It has performed numerous concerts in Italy and abroad, receiving significant recognition in various competitions, including first prize at the VI Rassegna Corale organized by the Province of Milan (1994), the Quartiano national competitions (1995), and the "Gran Premio Targa d'Oro" (trophy reserved for winning choirs in previous editions), also in Quartiano (1997), the Concorso Nazionale di Polifonia Sacra di Bresso (1995), and the Concorso Nazionale di Appiano Gentile (1998). In 2000, it gave a philological performance of J.S. Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248 using copies of original instruments.
More recently (2019) was the collaboration with the Laboratorio di Acustica Musicale del Politecnico di Milano, the Musei Civici di Cremona, and the International Arts and Mind Lab, Brain Science Institute, Johns Hopkins University (USA) for the Sound Resonance Project, a "scientific" concert to measure the emotions of music. In 2022, W.A. Mozart's Requiem in D minor, KV626, for soloists, choir, and orchestra, was performed at several prestigious venues.
The current lineup consists of approximately twenty-five members; the repertoire, modeled on the ensemble's chamber music nature, includes works from the Renaissance, Baroque, and Romantic periods, as well as works by contemporary composers and arrangements of traditional songs.
The philological attention to performance and vocal cohesion are the distinctive features of the discanto vocal ensemble, making the concert experience a high-profile musical event. The versatility of the choir's sections allows for the performance of pieces for many voices, and the possibility of ranging from sacred repertoire to the creation of secular pieces allows for a broad expressive panorama: thus, both contemplative opportunities and moments of pleasant enjoyment can be enjoyed. |
