Lucía Caihuela (Soprano)

Born: Spain

The Spanish soprano, Lucía Caihuela, started studying classical singing in Madrid where she obtained her diploma with Honours in 2012. Shortly after, she continued her studies in early music singing with Xenia Meijer at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where she graduated cum laude in 2017. She is currently studying her Master in the same institution.

As a soloist Lucía Caihuela has sung under conductors like Richard Egarr, Jos van Veldhoven, Paul Dombrecht, Remy Baudet and José Antonio Montaño. She has performed in venues like Teatro Real (Madrid), Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), TivoliVredenburg (Utrecht), De Doelen (Rotterdam), Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ (Amsterdam) and Auditorio Nacional (Madrid), also in festivals like Oude Muziek Festival in Utrecht, Thüringer Bachwochen in Germany, and Música Sacra in Madrid.

Lucía Caihuela made her opera debut in Teatro Real (Madrid) in 2012, as Proserpina in L'Orfeo by Monteverdi. She has also performed the roles of Dido, from Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Lucrecia in the Spanish zarzuela Donde hay violencia no hay culpa and the role of Gerda, in The falling soldier by Nikos Ioakeim.

She collaborates with ensembles like the Nederlandse Bachvereniging (Director: Jos van Veldhoven), Collegium 1704 (Director: Václav Luks), Música Temprana and Seconda Pratica, among others. She is a member of the Young Bach Fellowship programme of the Nederlandse Bachvereniging.

Last October Lucía took part in the final round of the prestigious opera competition Neue Stimmen, for which only 40 out of 1400 aspirants from all over the globe were selected.
