University of Warsaw Chamber Choir Collegium Musicum (Chamber Choir)

Founded: 1994/1995 - Warsaw, Poland

The University of Warsaw Chamber Choir Collegium Musicum (Polish: Chór Kameralny Collegium Musicum Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego = CMUW-CC) was formed in the 1994/1995 season. The choir adopted its name in 1997, aspiring to follow the Middle Ages tradition of a collegium musicum - academic association, which assembles university musical activities. The choir sings a cappella many old and modern Polish musical pieces, also European music and Christmas carolls from all over the world. Eagerly performs vocal and instrumental works, i.e. from J.S. Bach, George Frideric Handel, Georg Philipp Telemann, Johann Adolf Hasse, Marc-Antoine Charpentier, Henry Purcell or W.A. Mozart. Collegium Musicum has specialised in performing the songs of Jeremi Przybora and Jerzy Wasowski (choral versions by Andrzej Borzym), which are masterpieces of word and music, depicting with a great sense of humour human customs, relationships and a wide variety of love cases.

Collegium Musicum performs in Warsaw, also at the University, in other Polish cities, being invited to take part in important musical events - Thursday Youth Concerts at the National Philharmonic, Bach in memoriam, Warsaw Musical Meetings, Universitas Cantat in Poznan. The choir was invited by the Polish Radio to perform choir parts for Maciej Małecki’s radio opera Balladyna, and also co-operated with Polish TV. The choir has recorded 10 CDs, including world and Polish premiere recordings of contemporary pieces. Collegium Musicum has performed for the audience abroad in 14 countries on 3 continents: in Chile, Germany, Switzerland, Lithuania, Italy, France, Egypt, Slovakia, Ukraine, Hungary, Macedonia, Iceland, Norway and the Canary Islands. The choir has lots of satisfaction to work with orchestras such as the Polish Radio Orchestra and Baroque ensembles Il Tempo and Concerto Polacco, and with excellent musicans of all musical styles, including Adolfo Tanzi, Cristian Carrasco, Wojciech Rajski, Olga Pasiecznik, Agata Sapiecha, Marek Toporowski, Justyna Steczkowska, Lilianna Stawarz, Krzysztof Herdzin, and many others.
