The Budavári Kamarazenekar (Buda Castle Chamber Orchestra) formed in 2008, mostly consisting of young university students. The members of the ensemble are now mostly adults, working people who, despite their work and family commitments, are seriously committed to the orchestra and chamber music.
The Artistic Director of the Budavári Kamarazenekar is Benedek Héja, music teacher, conductor, composer. The orchestra's repertoire consists primarily of Baroque and Classical, occasionally romantic and contemporary pieces. Although they mainly play works written for string orchestra, they also enjoy performing various concertos and oratorios.
In recent years, the Budavári Kamarazenekar have performed several well-known, great works, such as J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245 and Matthäus-Passion BWV 244, W.A. Mozart's Requiem, Dvořák's New World Symphony or L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 7, but they also like to select from the works of lesser-known composers such as William Herschel, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Ottorino Respighi or Ernő Dohnányi.
The Budavári Kamarazenekar was named after the part of the city where most of its rehearsals and concerts were initially held, but they currently rehearse at the Árpád Gimnáziumban in Óbudán. They give eight to ten concerts a year in the capital, occasionally in the countryside, and they hold their summer camp in Keszthely every year. |
