Vincent Boucher (Organ)

Born: Montréal, Québec, Canada

The Canadian organist, Vincent Boucher, he began his studies with harpsichordist Luc Beauséjour and organist Bernard Lagacé. He continued his studies at the Conservatory of Music of Quebec in Montreal in Mireille Lagacé's class (2000-2002). There he won two First Prizes with a unanimous jury for the organ and the harpsichord. He has participated in several academies and master-classes given by, amongst others: Kenneth Gilbert, Ton Koopman, James David Christie and Marie-Claire Alain. In November 2000, he won the 1st Prize at the John-Robb Competition of the Royal Canadian College of Organists, the oldest organ competition of its kind in Canada. In addition, he also won the prestigious European Prize from the Academy of Music of Quebec. This prize, being the crown for Canada's oldest competition open to all singers and instrumentalists, has not been awarded to an organist for 34 years.

During his four years as a trained organist at the St. Cécile Cathedral in Valleyfield, Vincent Boucher recorded his first disc under the label Fonovox at age 19, and also founded two concert series. In 1998, he left for Vienna, Austria to perfect his art with Gordon Murray for the harpsichord and with Michael Gailit for the organ; then in in Boston with James David Christie. He has toured in Canada, France, and Austria and has been heard several times on the airwaves of Radio-Canada. With the European Prize under his belt, he has been able to work with Pierre Pincemaille in Paris on improvisation and composition. Then he served as the joint Casavant organist at the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church in Montreal. He completed a doctorate in performance (organ) at McGill University with John Grew and William Porter (2004-2008).

In January 2015, Vincent Boucher was appointed titular organist of Saint Joseph’s Oratory Rudolf von Beckerath organ. As Artistic Director of its concert series, he enriches the musical life of the Oratory by presenting over 50 recitals every year. He has performed extensively and internationally, notably in England, France, Germany and Austria. His recital “Vincent Boucher à l’orgue” was featured on the Mezzo television channel broadcasted in 40 countries. In 2002, the Académie de musique du Québec awarded the Prix d’Europe, which had not been given to an organist since 1966. He has recorded 15 CD's which have won many prizes and praise from the critics. He is currently recording the entire organ works of Charles Tournemire.

Vincent Boucher is enjoying a true double career, pursuing both music and finance. He has been in the financial industry since 1999 and is Portfolio Manager at National Bank Financial (since Februaryy 2019). He designed thirty investment products which gathered over $5 billion in new assets. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance (1996-1999) and a graduate degree in e-commerce (2000-2005) from HEC, Université de Montréal’s business school, a Master of Business Administration from Oxford University (2010-2011) and the prestigious Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute designations.
