Gary Bertini Israel Choir (Chamber Choir)

Founded: 2009 - Tel-Aviv, Israel

The Gary Bertini Israel Choir was founded in 2009 by Haggi Goren and Ronen Borshevsky. The choir consists of thirty singers, most of whom are music teachers and experienced musicians. Bertini Choir focuses on a-capella performance and collaborations with small to medium sized orchestras such as The Israel Camerata Orchestra Jerusalem, Israel Chamber Orchestra from Tel Aviv, Prague Chamber Orchestra, Nova Amadeus Orchestra from Rome, Barrocade Ensemble, Interpreti Veneziani, Assamblea Mediterranea from Stuttgart, to name a few.

Bertini Choir has also hosted in its concert series, some of the leading vocal ensembles in the world including Jauna Muzika from Vilnius, Oreya from Zhytomyr, and the famous ensemble Voces8 from London.

In addition to the chamber choir, Bertini Choir also performs symphonic pieces with a larger body of singers. In its larger capacity, the choir regularly performs with The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Past collaborations with the orchestra include Penderecki's Polish Requiem, Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé, Rossini's Stabat Mater, Gustav Mahler's 2nd & 3rd Symphonies, Orff's Carmina Burana, Arnold Schoenberg's Gurre-Lieder, Sergei Rachmaninov's The Bells, Leonard Bernstein's Kadish, Candide and Chichester Psalms, Benjamin Britten's War Requiem; as well as many operas such as W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Verdi's La Traviata, Il Trovatore, Rigoletto, Otello and Falstaff, Puccini's Tosca, Turandot and La Boheme, Tchaikovsky's Pique Dame, L.v. Beethoven's Fidelio, Strauss's Die Fledermaus, Georges Bizet's Carmen and many more.

The choir performed under the batons of some of the most renowned conductors in the world, including Zubin Mehta, Lahav Shani, Kurt Masur, Karl-Heinz Steffens, Vasili Petrenko, Manfred Honeck, Marin Alsop, Asher Fisch, Vladimir Jurowski, Ilan Volkov, Yoel Levi, Ariel Zuckermann, Avner Biron and others.

Bertini Choir has toured in Europe several times. The first tour of the choir was in 2012 to Rome and southern Italy. In 2014 the choir toured in Prague and Vienna. The most special journey was with the project Near Eastern Voices in 2017. The choir then traveled to Burgundy, France for recording and performing alongside ensemble of Arabs and Jews musicians. The most recent tour was in 2022, in which the choir performed in Venice, Vicenza and Mantua in Italy and Nuremberg in Germany.
