Joseph Arndt (Choral Conductor, Organ)

Born: March 1985 - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

The American choral conductor and organist, Josep Arndt, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Organ from Westminster Choir College (2003-2007); and his Maste of Music degree in Organ from The Juilliard School (2007-2009). He studied organ with Paul Jacobs (Juilliard), Ken Cowan, and Diane Meredith Belcher.

Joseph Arndt served as Director of Music at Grace Church in Newark, New Jersey (June 2008-May 2015); Organist for daily services at Trinity Wall Street in New York City (September 2012-May 2015). Since June 2015, he is Music Director (Organist/Choirmaster) at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In July 2018, during his tenure, the parish commissioned and installed a new 3-manual 31-stop Chancel Organ, Opus 173 from Schoenstein & Co. He founded the Oklahoma Bach Choir & Orchestra, an ensemble performing J.S. Bach cantatas with period instrumentalists from Texas and New York City. He and guest conductor Timothy Brown (retired from Clare College, Cambridge) have presented complete performances of George Frideric Handel’s Messiah, with broadcasts on NPR affiliates stations.

He is Chair of Planned Giving for the Association of Anglican Musicians, is Dean of the Tulsa Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, and is Chair of Fundraising for the Dallas Boys Course of the Royal School of Church Music-America. He has served as adjunct instructor of harpsichord and early music at The bART Center for Music/Oklahoma City University in Tulsa (November 2015-May 2021) and the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond (August 2017-August 2019). In 2022, he and Adam Pajan performed the twelve major organ works of César Franck in a tour including performances in Houston, Dallas, New York, Seattle, Denver, and Tulsa. In 2023, he, Pajan and the St. John’s Chamber Choir offer the complete 20 canticle settings of Herbert Howells in a special Choral Evensong series.
