Epistle: Galatians 4: 1-7 Christ is sent to redeem those under the law

1. Ich sage aber, solange der Erbe ein Kind ist, so ist unter ihm und einem Knechte kein Unterschied, ob er wohl ein Herr ist aller Güter,

[1] Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;

2. sondern er ist unter den Vormündern und Pflegern bis auf die bestimmte Zeit vom Vater.

[2] But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.

3. Also auch wir, da wir Kinder waren, waren wir gefangen unter den äußerlichen Satzungen.

[3] Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:

4. Da aber die Zeit erfüllet ward, sandte GOtt seinen Sohn, geboren von einem Weibe und unter das Gesetz getan,

[4] But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

5. auf daß er die, so unter dem Gesetz waren, erlösete, daß wir die Kindschaft empfingen.

[5] To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

6. Weil ihr denn Kinder seid, hat GOtt gesandt den Geist seines Sohnes in eure Herzen, der schreiet: Abba, lieber Vater!

[6] And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

7. Also ist nun hier kein Knecht mehr, sondern eitel Kinder. Sind's aber Kinder, so sind's auch Erben GOttes durch Christum.

[7] Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ

Gospel: Luke 2: 33-40 Christ is born for the redemption of Israel

33. Und sein Vater und Mutter wunderten sich des, das von ihm geredet ward.

[33] And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.

34. Und Simeon segnete sie und sprach zu Maria, seiner Mutter: Siehe, dieser wird gesetzt zu einem Fall und Auferstehen vieler in Israel und zu einem Zeichen, dem widersprochen wird

[34] And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;

35. (und es wird ein Schwert durch deine Seele dringen), auf daß vieler Herzen Gedanken offenbar werden.

[35] (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

36. Und es war eine Prophetin, Hanna, eine Tochter Phanuels, vom eschlecht Asser; die war wohl betaget und hatte gelebt sieben Jahre mit ihrem Manne nach ihrer Jungfrauschaft

[36] And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;

37. und war nun eine Witwe bei vierundachtzig Jahren; die kam nimmer vom Tempel, dienete GOtt mit Fasten und Beten Tag und Nacht:

[37] And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

38. Dieselbige trat auch hinzu zu derselbigen Stunde und preisete den HErrn und redete von ihm zu allen, die da auf die Erlösung zu Jerusalem warteten.

[38] And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

39. Und da sie es alles vollendet hatten nach dem Gesetz des HErrn, kehrten sie wieder nach Galiläa zu ihrer Stadt Nazareth.

[39] And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.

40. Aber das Kind wuchs und ward stark im Geist, voller Weisheit; und GOttes Gnade war bei ihm.

[40] And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
