"A Prelude by Bach" is by Simeon Solomon (1840-1905), a tragic figure who is being rediscovered and recently was the subject of a major exhibition in Birmingham, England. It is a quite remarkable statement of the fey, reverential and quasi-mystical attitude to Bach amongst London cognoscenti in the late 19^th century.
