[by the artist, January 2000]: The start of the new Millennium. A new beginning. New Year's in Japan is an especially delightful time. People are relaxed, dressed in colorful kimonos, enjoying an extended yearly holiday. Bach's music, strong, full of faith, grace and power, demanded simple strong shapes in the painting. The cross theme in the center is an obvious reference to Bach's as well as my own Christian background, but I did not intend this to be a "religious" picture. |
