Georg Lenck (Composer)

Died: March 22, 1744 - Weißenfels, Saxony, Germany

Georg Lenck (sometimes spelt Lembke) was a German composer and organist who, as Kantor at Laucha an der Unstrut, near Naumburg, competed unsuccessfully for the post of Thomaskantor in 1722. In 1725, he was appointed Kantor at Weißenfels, the same year that J.S. Bach presented the Shepherds Cantata, BWV 249.1. The last duke of Saxe-Weißenfels, Johann Adolph II, successor to Duke Christian, abolished the court capelle but retained Lenck, resident capellmeister, on full salary, who remained there until his death in 1744.
