History & Mission: |
Since 2001 Barokensemble De Swaen organises its own concertseries in which cantatas of J.S. Bach are performed with the vocal en instrumental music of Bach’s contemporaries. Along with organising its own concertseries, De Swaen also performs in extra concerts in the Netherlands and abroad, sometimes in cooperation with (chamber) choirs.
Because of some artistic and social choices the concerts of De Swaen are special and personal both in sound and atmosphere. De Swaen programmes a lot of unknown pieces, some of which are being performed for the first time since the 18th Century. The manuscripts of these pieces come from several libraries in Europe.
Well known pieces also get a “second première”, since the ensemble chooses instruments, tuning aesthetics and performance practice as close as is possible to those of the early 18th century. It is interesting for an audience to hear some of the recent results of HIP (Historically Informed Performance) research.
The musicians who play and sing in De Swaen are all experienced professionals, specializing in the performance of Baroque music. The size of the ensemble varies, depending on the programme. |
