Spencer VanDellen (Tenor)

Born: Claresholm, Alberta, Canada

The Canadian tenor, Spencer VanDellen, grew up in the small town of Claresholm, Alberta about an hour south of Calgary. Music has always been a part of his life and continues to be his main focus. He obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from the University of Victoria (2018-2022); and currently studies for his Master of Music degree in Voice Performance at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance (since August 2022). His Awards include: 2018 Cowtown Opera Rising Artist Award; 2018 Claresholm Junior Citizen of the Year. In 2019-2020 he was Choral Scholar at Christ Church Cathedral Victoria.

Spencer VanDellen enjoys reading, cooking and biking in his free time. He has performed in many musical theatre productions all around Southern Alberta, including the Little Shop of Horrors, Willy Wonka, and The Wizard of Oz, and Operettas such as Nanki-Poo in the Victoria Gilbert and Sullivan Society's production of The Mikado (November 2018); he has also performed the role of emperor Nerone in Monteverdi's The Coronation of Poppea with Opera NUOVA (July 2022), and Man in the Yellow Suit in Tuck Everlasting with Opera NUOVA (July 2022). As a concert singer, he was Tenor Soloist in George Frideric Handel's Messiah conducted by Joan Dosso at Emanuel Baptist Church in Victoria, British Columbia (December 2018); J.S. Bach's Magnificat in D major BWV 243 with Victoria Philharmonic Choir (March 2022); and L.v. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 with UVIC Orchestra & Chorus (March 2022).

Though Spencer VanDellen devotes a lot of time to his passion he still has time to volunteer in his community and to help out wherever he can. Spencer enjoys performing in a number of different genres, and is involved with a variety of choirs and vocal groups that perform often.
