The American mezzo-soprano and lecturer, Amelia Triest, began her musical studies at an early age, pursuing both the piano and the violin before settling on voice as her primary instrument. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Vocal Performance from University of California, Los Angeles (Class of 1980); and completed her undergraduate training in vocal performance at UCLA (Class of 1999), where she specialized in early and 20th-century music both in concert and operatic settings.

Amelia Triest has appeared with the American Bach Soloists (1998-2017; Director: Jeffrey Thomas), Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale (1999-2006; Directors: Nicholas McGegan/Richard Egarr), Theatre of Voices (1992-1996; Director: Paul Hillier), Mark Morris Dance Group (2000-2005), San Francisco Contemporary Chamber Players (2002), Gold Country Chamber Orchestra (2000), UC Davis Symphony Orchestra and Chorus (1999-2004), UC Davis Chamber Singers (1991-1995; Director: Paul Hillier), Sacramento Chamber Orchestra (1996-1997), and Orchestra of All Hallows. She also was Alto soloist/section leader at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Berkeley (April 1994-June 1995; Conductor: George Emblom): Her singing career continues to include diverse styles of music, from early to modern, in works ranging from a rediscovered 17th-century Zapotec mass to world premieres of music by Arvo Pärt. She can be heard on the Harmonia Mundi, Avie, Bridge and Delos labels.

Amelia Triest is lecturer in the music department at the University of California at Davis (since 1999), taught courses in music theory, keyboard harmony, and musicianship. She was also Private voice instructor (1994-1999). She married Rhio Barnhart on June 21, 1980, and currently lives in Davis, California.
