Velentina Salinas (Soprano, Mezzo-soprano)

Born: Santiago, Chile

The Chilean soprano/mezzo-soprano singer, musicologist and and cultural manager specializing in music, Valentina Salinas-Welsh, began her music studies formally in 2007, when she entered the Instituto de Musica de la Universidad Catolica de Chile, where she took courses in musicology and classical singing, studying with Ahlke Scheffelt and Rodrigo del Pozo (2007-2011). In 2012, she arrived in Paris to pursue her musicological and vocal studies at the Sorbonne University (Université de la Sorbonne Paris IV), where she obtained her Master of Music degree, and at the Regional Conservatoire of Paris (Conservatoire Régional de Paris), where she studied under the direction of Didier Henry. In 2016, she was awarded the Diploma of Musical Studies (Diplome d’études musicales) in Classical Singing by the Conservatoire of Versailles, with the unanimity of the jury. She has also studied with Christine Schweitzer and Sébastien Obrecht. She obtained the highest award of Très Bien in the Concours d’honneur of the UPMCF, which took place in December 2016, and has recently obtained her diplôme supérieur in lyrical singing at the Schola Cantorum de Paris (2015-2017), under the direction of Nadine Denize. She later studied CAS cultural and musical management at the Haute école de musique de Genève (2017-2018).

Valentina Salinas has worked as a singer in various productions in France. She has performed the roles of the Mother in L’enfant et les sortilèges, and Mother Jeanne in Francis Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites. In July 2016, she sang the role of the Mother in Der Jasager and Miss Baggott in The Little Sweep at the Rochefort Theatre in a production by Olivier Dhénin. Her preferred repertoire includes the works of W.A. Mozart, Bel Canto, and Romantic operas. She is a chamber music enthusiast and really enjoys singing Johannes Brahms, Schubert, Francis Poulenc and Ravel. She has also worked as an administrative and artistic collaborator at the Adagio Artists agency in Paris, then in the Artistic Direction department at the Grand Théâtre in Geneva (Switzerland); first as assistant to the director and then as responsible for the artistic administration and planning of that theater.

In Santiago, Chile, Valentina Salinas was active as free-lance opera singer (July 2012-August 2022); voice teacher (September 2014-August 2022); Consultant for musicians and cultural agents (September 2020-August 2022); Coordinator of Continuing Education and Professor of French Phonetics at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile: Instituto de Música (March 2022-August 2022), Since August 2022, she is Coordinator of Artistic Projects at Fundación Teatro del Lago in Los Lagos, Chile. Her musical experience, her administrative and planning-organization aspects allow her to understand the classical music market from different points of view.
