Russian mezzo-soprano Maria Ostroukhova (Russian: Мария Остроухова), was born into a family of Muscovite musicians in 1991, and started her professional musical education at the age of 6. She studied at the Moscow Gnessins’ College of Music as a pianist and accompanist with Anna Arzamanova and Marianna Shalitaeva until 2009 when she graduated magna cum laude. In the same year she enroled into Tchaikovsky’s Moscow State Conservatoire where she studied for 3 years as a pianist, harpsichordist historical piano and basso continuo with Yuri Martynov and Alexandra Koreneva. In 2012, she received an outstanding opportunity to study at the Royal College of Music in London, on the Master of Performance in Vocal Performance course with Nick Sears and Simon Lepper. She recently graduated with a Master of Vocal Performance and a Graduate Diploma in Vocal Performance, both with distinction. She was H F Music Scholar supported with the Charles Banchini Award.
In 2014, Maria Ostroukhova made my professional debut as Ottavia and Fortuna in Monteverdi's L’incoronazione di Poppea with Christopher Glynn and Ryedale Festival Opera. She began her international career after winning the Michael Oliver Prize at the London Handel Competition in 2015. Her recent engagements include Isabella L’italiana In Algeri at Ópera de Tenerife and Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Dardano nin Amadigi at the London Handel Festival, Ottavia L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Longborough Festival, Bradamante in George Frideric Handel's Alcina for the Lammermuir Festival and Ryedale Festival Opera, Albino in Johann Adolf Hasse's I pellegrini al Sepolchro di Nostro Signore at Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Philharmonic Hall, Emirena in Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s Adriano in Siria at Cadogan Hall, W.A. Mozart's Requiem at St. Martin in the Fields and Igor Stravinsky's Les Noces with the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vasily Petrenko.
Other roles include Ottavia and Fortuna in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, Mrs. Herring in Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring, Dritte Dame in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Carilda in Arianna in Creta, Maman, La Tasse Chinoise, and La Libellule in L’enfant et les Sortileges and the title-role in G.F. Handel's Giulio Cesare in Egitto. Concert performances encompass Verdi’s Requiem, G.B. Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Janacek’s The Diary of the One Who Disappeared and Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2. Her professional recordings include “A lullaby for Princess Charlotte” by Dr Olga Thomas produced by the Royal Marines’ Bandmaster and the Cruise Bereavement Care as a private gift for Her Majesty the Queen. Maria Ostroukhova has been an Alvarez Young Artist at Garsington, where she covered Ino in Semele.
Upcoming engagements include Tisbe La Cenerentola at the Grange Festival (UK) conducted by David Parry and her role-debut and company-debut as Falliero Bianca e Falliero at Oper Frankfurt. |
