Steven Moore (Baritone)

Born: Australia

The Australian-born répétiteur/conductor and baritone, Steven Moore, completed a Bachelor of Music (Hons) at the University of Southern Queensland, majoring in Pipe Organ and Accompaniment. He continued his studies at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, completing a Graduate Diploma of Music Studies, majoring in Voice. Steven then completed a Master of Music (Performance) degree with distinction at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD) on the Repetiteur course, followed by the Repetiteur course at the National Opera Studio. He has also attended the Advanced Conducting Course at the Dartington International Summer School. He has been Assistant Conductor and Chorus Master for Le nozze di Figaro at the GSMD and Assistant Conductor for The Rake's Progress for Opera Faber. He has also worked on the music staff for productions of Le nozze di Figaro for USQ Opera Studio, Capriccio for GSMD, Albert Herring, Macbeth and L'elisir d'amore for Glyndebourne Touring Opera. He has played for master classes with Felicity Palmer, Martin Isepp and Graham Clark and worked with numerous coaches and conductors.

Steven Moore was Director of Music at St Peter's Church, Hammersmith, which includes conducting St Peter's Festival Orchestra, and Conductor of Hayes Symphony Orchestra. As a singer, he has performed on stage in numerous opera productions, including roles in Die Zauberflöte, The Pilgrim's Progress, Semele, Amahl and the Night Visitors and Trial by Jury. He joined the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme in September 2008 and and make his conducting debut at Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London with The Bear as part of Meet the Young Artists week in the Linbury in October 2008. He also joined the Royal Opera music staff (2008-2010) for Elektra, Hänsel und Gretel, The Beggar's Opera, Rigoletto, Dido and Aeneas, Acis and Galatea, Lohengrin, Lulu and Tosca.

Steven Moore is at home on the concert stage as well as the musical theatre stage having performed leading roles throughout the USA, Canada and Europe. In London, he appeared as Randy Curtis in the Royal National Theatre production of Kurt Weill's Lady in the Dark (directed by Francesca Zambello) and can be heard on the original cast recording. He was the Phantom in the Maury Yeston/Arthur Kopit Phantom in Germany. In recent years he has played the role of Emile de Becque in several productions of South Pacific. Recent opera productions include Le Grand Macabre with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, The Grapes of Wrath at Carnegie Hall and Les Huguenots, Der Ferne Klang, Die Liebe der Danae and Le Roi Malgre Lui at Bard Summerscape. Mr. Moore has been a soloist with the American Classical Orchestra, Omni Ensemble, Musica Viva, New York Virtuoso Singers, American Symphony Orchestra, Musica Sacra and New York Concert Singers. He also appears regularly with New York Choral Artists and the New York Concert Chorale.
