Meißner Kantorei 1961 (Choir)

Founded: 1961 - Meissen, Saxony, Germany

The name of the Meißner Kantorei 1961 refers to origin and year of the choir. In the more than 50 years of existence, the choiur's focus is on contemporary sacred choral works of the 20th and 21st centuries. The content of the works which proclaim the Christian message with the musical means of the present, plays a central role. These sophisticated pieces are combined in the concerts with 'classic' choral music (from Josquin de Pres to Hugo Distler).

The Meißner Kantorei 1961 sings annually 5 to 10 concerts with varying programmes. Often the choir is hosted by church music festivals, Festivals of New Music (Tagen für neue Musik), etc at home and abroad. The have permiered numerous works. The predominantly young singers from all over Central Germany have been meeting for 2013 in new, scaled- cast . A large choir extends this cast about three times a year for a Singwochenende or Chorwoche.

The Meißner Kantorei 1961 e.V. is a registered charity.
