Nadja Mchantaf (Soprano)

Born: March 14, ____ - Husum, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany

The German soprano, Nadja Mchantaf, completed ten years of dance training before beginning her voice studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig with Regina Werner-Dietrich. She has, since 2010, continued her studies with Brigitte Eisenfeld.

While still a student, Nadja Mchantaf appeared as a guest at the Leipzig Opera, in the Gewandhaus, and at the Bachfest Leipzig. Upon receiving her diploma, she was accepted by the apprentice program of the Semperoper in Dresden, during which time she sang the title role in Hans Werner Henze's Gisela! She was thereupon engaged as a full-fledged member of the ensemble and appeared as Pamina in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (September 2013-April 2014), Musetta in La bohème (November 2013-July 2014; August 2014-March 2015), Micaëla in Georges Bizet's Carmen (September 2013-April 2014; August-November 2014), Servilia in W.A. Mozart's La clemenza di Tito, Gretel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel, (December 2012; December 2013; December 2014-January 2015), Princess Eudoxie in La Juive (March-July 2013; September 2013), Ännchen in Der Freischütz, Valencienne in Die lustige Witwe (March-April 2015), Lucilla in Johann Adolf Hasse's Il tutore, Lidochka in Dmitri Shostakovich's Moscow, Cheryomushki, and Morgana in George Frideric Handel's Alcina. (March-April 2014; April-June 2014). She also sang in the premiere of two new productions there: as Adina in L’elisir d’amore, under the direction of Riccardo Frizza; and as the Fifth Maid in Elektra, under the direction of Christian Thielemann (January-June 2014 and later; available on CD from Deutsche Grammophon).

With the role of Tamiri in W.A. Mozart's Il re pastore, Nadja Mchantaf made her debut with the Komische Oper Berlin (May 2014), which then engaged her for Massenet’s Cendrillon (June-July 2013), in which role, under the musical direction of Henrik Nánási and the stage direction of Damiano Michieletto, she celebrated a great success. She has also appeared as a guest with the Stuttgart State Opera, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Beijing Music Festival, and Graz Oper.

As of the beginning of the 2016–2017 season, Nadja Mchantaf is a member of the resident ensemble of the Komische Oper, where she looks forward to appearing as Dvořák’s Rusalka, Tatyana in Eugene Onegin, the Child in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges, Érinice in Rameau’s Zoroastre, and Micaëla in Carmen. She currently lives in Berlin, Germany.
