The German mezzo-soprano, Claudia Mahnke, won in 1994 first prize at the National Singing Competition in Berlin. She joined Stuttgart Opera’s Ensemble in 1996, where her roles included Dorabella, Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier) and the title role in Hartmann’s Simplicius Simplicissimus (for which she received many nominations for "Singer of the Year" in Opernwelt). She became one of Stuttgart Opera’s Kammersängerinnin in 2006.

Claudia Mahnke has been a member of Oper Frankfurt’s Enbsemble since the 2006-2007 season, since when her roles have included Magdalena in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Antonia in Tiefland, Bianca in Eine florentinische Tragödie/A Florentine Tragedy and Charlotte in Werther. In 2007 she sang Zerlina in Don Giovanni at the San Francisco Opera, where she has already enjoyed great success singing Cherubino, Dorabella and the Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos. Other engagements have included Dorabella in Così fan tutte at the Opéra de Lyon and Cherubino with the Deutsche Oper Berlin in Seoul.

Her roles for Oper Frankfurt during 2007-2008 included Ciesca in Il trittico, the title role in a new production of The Rape of Lucretia, Emilia in concert performances of Otello and the mezzo soprano role in the first performances in Germany of Pintscher’s L’espace dernier. She also stepped in at short notice to sing Cerubino in Mozart’s Figaro, a role she will sing again here during 2008-2009. Other roles this season include Concepción (role debut) in a new production of Ravel’s L’heure espagnole and Silla in a new production of Pfitzner’s Palestrina. In June 2008 she sang in performances of I Puritani at the Bayerische Staatsoper München.
