Vyacheslav Lukhanin (Bass)

Born: 1955 - Maili-Suu, Kyrgyzstan, USSR

The Russian bass, Vyacheslav Lukhanin, graduated from the vocals faculty of the Bishkek State Conservatoire in 1985. He was Prize-winner at the International Chaliapin Opera Singers' Competition (2nd prize, 1989), and • Diploma-recipient at the All-Union Glinka Vocalists' Competitions (1987-1989).

From 1985 to 1986, Vyacheslav Lukhanin was a soloist with the Novosibirsk Theatre of Opera and Ballet; from 1986 to 1991, a soloist with the Frunze Maldybaev Theatre of Opera and Ballet; from 1991 to 1994, a soloist with the Leningrad Academic Musorgsky Maly Theatre of Opera and Ballet. He has been a Mariinsky Theatre soloist since 1994, making his debut as the Grand as Inquisitor in Don Carlo. Roles he has performed over 50 roles at the Mariinsky Theatre, including: Farlaf (Ruslan and Lyudmila), Boris, Varlaam, Pimen, Nikitich, Bailiff (Boris Godunov), Khovansky, Dosifei (Khovanshchina), Vladimir Galitsky, Khan Konchak (Prince Igor), Elderly Servant of the Affianced Prince Sinodal (The Demon), Gremin (Eugene Onegin), Orlik (Mazepa), Foka (The Enchantress), René, Bertrand (Iolanta), Bermyata (The Snow Maiden), Luka Zinovich, Duda (Sadko), Sobakin, Malyuta (The Tsar's Bride), Tsar Saltan (The Tale of Tsar Saltan), Bedyai (The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevronia), Old Gypsy (Aleko), Chamberlain, Bonze (Le Rossignol), Old Gambler (The Gambler), Tkachenko, Haydamak (Semyon Kotko), Father Benedictine, Miguel, Third Masker (Betrothal in a Monastery), Count Rostov, General Yermolov, General Bennigsen (War and Peace), Shvokhnev (The&bsp;Gamblers), Head of a Newspaper Dispatch Office (The Nose), Boris Timofeyevich, Priest, Police Chief (Katerina Ismailova), Grigory (The Brothers Karamazov), Basilio (l barbiere di Siviglia), Zaccaria (Nabucco), Grenvil (La traviata), Tom (Un ballo in maschera), Filippo II, Grand Inquisitor, Monk (Don Carlo), Ramfis, King of Egypt (Aida), Benoîit, Alcindoro (La bohème), Cesare Angelotti, Sacristan (Tosca), Simone (Gianni Schicchi), Trojan Soldier (Les Troyens), Zuniga (Carmen), Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), The One-Armed Man (Die Frau ohne Schatten), Quince (A Midsummer Night’s Dream). He has toured with the Mariinsky Opera Company to Portugal, Japan, France, Spain, Luxemburg, the| Netherlands, Germany, Finland, the USA, Italy, Israel and the UK.

Vyacheslav Lukhanin's concert repertoire includes the bass roles in Mozart's Requiem, Verdi's Requiem and the role of Tsar Dodon The Golden Cockerel.
