Václava Krejčí Housková (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: 1983 - České Budějovice, Czech Republic

The Czech mezzo-sorano, Václava Krejčí Housková, studied voice at the Conservatory of České Budějovice with D. Volfová. After that she attended Prague’s Academy of Performing Arts with as a student of J. Přívratská. Her main mentors there were soprano Dr. Helena Kaupová and vocal couch and pianist Mark Pinzow. Beside the academy she participated on master-classes with Margareet Honig.

In 2010 Václava Krejčí Housková performed in prestigious opera festival the Wexford Opera Festival in Ireland as Marianna in Rossini: Il Signor Bruchino and Mistress of the novices in Puccini's Suor Angelica. During her studies her cooperation with Chamber Opera Prague began. With this ensemble she toured abroad, appearing in the roles of Marcellina and Cherubin in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, the Third Lady and the Third Boy in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. Since 2010 she has been permanent cast member of the Moravian Theatre Olomouc. She sang lead mezzo-soprano’s roles in W.A. Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, Verdi’s Fastaff and Nabucco, Tchaikovsky’s Eugen Onegin, Rossini’s Barbiere di Sevilla. Currently she is engaged in The National Theater Brno where she performes many big roles such as Georges Bizet's Carmen, Dvořák’s Ježibaba in Rusalka, Káča in The Devil and Kate, Rossini’s Isolier in Le comte Ory, Tchaikovsky’s Pavlina and Daphnis in The Queen of Spades, Gounod’s Siebel in Faust and Janáček’s The Fox in The Cunning Little Vixen. She made her debut in National Theater Prague as G. Bizet's Carmen in 2014. On the first Czech opera stage she also performed Cherubino in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Third Lady in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Lapák in The Cunning Little Vixen, Death in Nightingale and Laura in Jolanta. As a guest soloist she cooperate with F.X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec (Tigrana in Edgar, Orfeo in Orfeo a Eurydice) and Theater J.K. Tyla in Pilsen (Nicklauss and Muse in The Tales of Hoffmann). In 2014 she was nominated for Thalia Prize for the successful stage performance as Smeton in Donnizetti’s Anna Bolena. In 2022, on the occasion of the French-Czech co-production, she performs the role of Bradamante in G.F. Handel's Alcina with the Collegium 1704 under the conductor Václav Luks at the National theatre in Brno.

In autumn 2018 within the European theatres project Opera Vision was recorded Czech opera The Cunning Little Vixen in National Theatre Brno where Václava Krejčí Housková sang the main role of The Fox.

Václava Krejčí Housková's sacred music repertoire includes Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria, W.A. Mozart's Requiem and Coronation Mass, Rossini’s Stabat Mater or Dvořák’s Requiem and Stabat Mater. He chamber music repertoire includes primarily Czech songs and song cycles by Janáček, Dvořák, Křička and Eben.

Václava Krejčí Housková is a guest of prestigious both Czech and international music festivals, e.g. the Wexford Festival Opera , Festival L´Été Bergerac, The Prague Spring, Smetana’s Litomyšl Opera Festival, Prague Proms, Edinburgh festival and many others.

Václava Krejčí Housková is married to Leos Krejčí and currently lives in Litomysl, Czech Republic.
