Dana Hoffmann (Soprano)

Born: April 19, ____ - Berlin, Germany

The German lyric colaratura soprano, Dana Hoffmann, graduated from high school “Georg-Friedrich-Händel” (2000) with emphasis on music and completed the support program as a young student at the Julius-Stern-Institut at the Universität der Künste Berlin. She then began singing studies for concert and theater music at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin (2009-2012). She studied singing as a major with Renate Faltin, and later by Julia Varady and Carola Höhn. She was also a member of Wolfram Rieger's Lied class and regularly attended master-classes with Scot Weir, Karola Theill and Peter Konwitschny, among others. During her studies, she already enjoyed a lively musical collaboration with Jan Olberg, Achim Zimmermann and Johannes Raudzsus. After completing her studies, she has benn influenced by singing Deborah York, Sami Kustaloglu, Doerthe Sandmann, Snezana Nena Brzakovic and Janet Williams.

A sought-after concert soloist, Dana Hoffmann sings the soprano parts of the great masses and oratorios and is a great lover of early music. She is a regular guest at the Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt, the Philharmonie Berlin and the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtnis-Kirche. She is the first soprano of the Vokalsolisten der Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtnis-Kirche and the Oferi Consort and has been a membe of the Vocalconsort Berlin (since November 2009). She is a regular guest with the Baroque ensembles Lautten Compagney Berlin (Director: Wolfgang Katschner) and Musicasequence (Director: Burak Özdemir), most recently at the Händelfestspielen in Halle (Saale) in 2015. International appearances have taken her to Japan, Greece, Switzerland and the USA, among others. With the support of the Johannes-Rau-Stiftung, she traveled with the Vokalquintett Berlin to the Abu Gosh Vocal Music Festival in Israel.

On the music theater stage, Dana Hoffmann is a member of the ensemble in the Deutsches Theater in the production Ein Traumspiel by August Strindberg, directed by Barrie Kosky, at HAU, Hebbel am Ufer in La chute de la maison by Claude Debussy (Staging: Georg Schütky), in Eine Nacht in Venedig by Johann Strauss (Staging: Franziska Kronfoth), in the Neukölln Opera in EUphorie with music by Jan Jiři Benda (Staging: Dorothea Schröder), Volksbühne in Lehrstück by Brecht and Paul Hindemith (Staging: Frank Castorf) and in Seestücke (Staging: Ulrich Rasche). She appears on the opera stage as Bastienne in W.A. Mozart's Bastien und Bastienne (Staging: Solveig Franke), as Papagena in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and as Berginella and Frasquinella in Offenbach's La Périchole (Staging: Michiel Dijkema). She sang with the Lautten Compagney Berlin as part of the Weimar Master Classes 2013 under the direction of Wolfgang Katschner the role of Poppea in L’incoronazione di Poppea by Claudio Monteverdi. She has recently sung in Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story at Komische Oper Berlin (January 2018); and in Orphée aux enfers at Salzburg Festival (July-August 2019). She currently lives in Berlin, Germany.
