Manon Chauvin (Soprano)

Born: France

The French soprano, Manon Chauvin, studied singing at the Conservatorio Nacional of Mexico City and the Escuela Superior de Canto in Madrid, where she currently lives. In 2014 she won 2nd Prize in the Premio Jóven-Bach competition.

In 2017, Manon Chauvin was chosen to participate in Jordi Savall’s young artist program “La Jove Capella Reial de Catalunya” which has taken her to specialize her career in the field of early music collaborating with ensembles such as La Capilla Reial de Catalunya (Director: Jordi Savall), Musica Ficta (Director: Bo Holten), La Capilla Real de Madrid (Director: Óscar Gershensohn), AriannaEnsemble, Coro Victoria, Trondheim Barokk, amongst others. She has participated in many music festivals abroad (Festival internacional de música sacra de Bogotá, Music in Old Cracow Festival, Festival de Arte Sacro de Madrid, China International Chorus Festival, Hong-Kong Arts Festival, etc).

As a soloist, Manon Chauvin has performed the world premiere of the contemporary opera Un Tiempo Enorme, by Jorge Fernández Guerra, winner of the 2007 National Music Prize for composition. She has sung oratorios such as Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, Antonio Vivaldi's Juditha Triumphans, George Frideric Handel's Messiah, Boccherini's Stabat Mater, J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor BWV 232 and Johannes-Passion BWV 245. She has performed in W.A. Mozart's operas Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni as well as in Purcell's Dido & Aeneas, The Fairy Queen and The Indian Queen. She also played the role of Brújula in the Baroque zarzuela Vendado es amor, no es ciego by J. de Nebra.

Manon Chauvin's discography includes Juditha Triumphans (2019) by A. Vivaldi (Director: Jordi Savall) and the Requiem by Tomás Luís de Victoria (2017) as well as Monteverdi sessions (2018), with Musica Ficta (Director: Raúl Mallavibarrena). She also works on rediscovering Spanish musical heritage recording the Requiem (2019) by J. de Nebra with La Madrileña (conducted by José Antonio Montaño), the Villancicos a San Lorenzo (2017) of Antonio Soler with Camerata Antonio Soler (Director: Gustavo Sánchez) and also an album of Alonso Lobo, Lobo: sacred vocal music (2019) with the Coro Victoria (Director: Ana Fernández-Vega). She currently lives in Madrid, Spain.
