The New-Zealander baritone, Benjamin (Ben) Caukwell, obtained his Bachelor of Music degree with Honours from the University of Canterbury; and his Master of Music degree in Performance Voice from the University of Otago.
Benjamin Caukwell sang with the New Zealand Opera Chorus in productions of La Boheme, W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni and George Frideric Handel's Acis and Galatea, and also featured as the voice of God in Benjamin Britten's Noah’s Flood. He then moved to Sydney, Australia, where he is a member of the Opera Australia Chorus, often performing at the Sydney Opera House, and recently performed in their 2017 production of Georges Bizet's Carmen on Sydney Harbour. He is an experienced classical performer who has been singing across Australia as well as overseas for many years. He has performed in numerous concerts and operas including the yearly showpiece Handa Opera on the Harbour. He has appeared as soloist with many musical organisations, including the Christchurch City Choir, Pinchgut Opera and the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra. He works as a professional singer and singing teacher with the St Mary's Cathedral Choir. After featuring as the Bass Soloist in Artes Christi's G.F. Handel's Messiah concert and CD recording in early 2017, he performed the role of Lancelot in Camelot in his first theatrical production with the company (August 2017). He has also sung with Bach Akademie Australia (Director: Madeleine Easton). He attended the Lisa Gasteen Opera Programme performing Nicolai’s Merry Wives of Windsor and featured in Blush Opera’s premiere of Chop Chef. He featured in the televised ANZAC Day Remembrance Concert in the Sydney Town Hall performing the New national Anthem.
Benjamin Caukwell currently lives in Sydney, Australia. When not singing, Benjamin enjoys swimming in the pool or sea and being in the outdoors with his young family. |
