Joshua Carlisle (Tenor)

Born: July 5, 1998 - Puyallup (Tacoma), Washington, USA

The American tenor and pianist, Joshua Carlisle, has been a pianist since the age of 5 and began singing in high school. He obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal performance at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington (November 2017-2021); and his his Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Literature from Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester (2022), in the studio of Anthony Dean Griffey. He was a member of Eastman Collegium Vocal Ensemble.

As a performer, Joshua Carlisle is equally comfortable on stage or in concert. While studying at Eastman, he appeared in leading roles in productions of Postcard from Morocco, Elizabeth Cree, and L’Amant Anonyme with Eastman Opera Theatre and Die Fledermaus with Rochester Summer Opera, where he made is debut as Eisenstein in the company’s inaugural production. While based outside Seattle, he appeared on stage with Seattle Opera for their critically-acclaimed 2019 production of Rigoletto before the Covid-19 pandemic. That same year, he performed all of Johannes Brahms’ masterpiece Liebeslieder Walzer during a live broadcast on Seattle’s 98.1 FM. He can also be heard as a featured soloist on the album "There Will Come Soft Rains", featuring works from world-renown composer Eriks Esenvalds.

Joshua Carlisle began his teaching career during college and expanded his studio to full-time upon graduating. Whether it be piano or voice lessons, he prioritizes an individualized lesson experience tailored to each student’s needs. During his short professional tenure before Covid, multiple students from his studio went on to state-level competitions and/or received significant scholarships to universities, whether or not they intended to pursue music. He offers piano lessons ranging from the beginner to late-intermediate level and voice students of all ability levels/musical backgrounds. Students are encouraged to utilize the tools they gain in lessons to deeper their passion and appreciation for music. Josh offers lessons to students looking to pursue any and all genres. He started teaching voice at South Shore Conservatory in 2023.
