Cheryl Cain (Soprano, Violin)

Born: December 24, 1977 - San Francisco, California, USA

The American soprano, violinist and teacher, Cheryl Cain Hasani, obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Voice from San Francisco Conservatory of Music (1995-1998); and her Master of Music degree in Voice from Manhattan School of Music (1998-2000). She continued her post-graduate studies in opera in Florence, Italy with Franco Pagliazzi. She also attended the Università per Stranieri di Siena, Italy (1996); the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy, where she studied with Shirley Verrett; Sessione Senese per la Musica e l’Arte in Siena, Italy; and Melanchthon Gymnasuim, Nürnberg, Germany. Other teachers: Sheri Greenawald, Catherine Cook, Cynthia Hoffmann, Hermann LeRoux. Her Awards and Honors include: International Competition for Lyric Singers, Palermo, Italy, Most Promising Young Artist; San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Voice Department Achievement Award; Berkeley Piano Club Vocal Competition, Grand Prize; MacAllister Awards Vocal Competition, Regional Winner; Bay Area Vocal Arts Competition, Grand Prize; San Francisco Orchestra Competition Audience prize, arias; Orchestra prize, arias & scenes from operas; Oregon Vocal Arts Competition, 1st Place.

Cheryl Cain has international stage experience as soloist and in opera scenes for crowds of thousands in Italy, Germany and Switzerland with the Sessione Senese per l'Arte e Musica, the Spoleto Music Festival and the Accademia Chigiana under the tutelage of Shirley Verrett. She has performed in operas in both San Francisco and New York City and as a soloist throughout Europe and the USA.

Cheryl Cain's choral experience includes: soprano with the San Francisco Symphony Chorus (since August 2006, including the 3 Grammy award winning recording of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 8, in 2010); Extra Chorus at the San Francisco Opera (since March 2013) for productions of Mefistofele (2013), Verdi's Requiem (2013), Les Troyens (2015), Turandot (2017), and Charles Gounod's Romeo et Juliette (September 2019); American Bach Soloists (since 2012; Director: Jeffrey Thomas), Cappella SF (since 2014), Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale (since 2015; Directors: Nicholas McGegan/Richard Egarr), and many others. Her church choir experience includes: Soprano/Soloist at All Saints Episcopal in New York City (1998-2000; Director: Dr. Gail Archer); Soprano/Soloist at St. Mary’s Cathedral Choir of San Francisco (1996-1998, 2003-2006); Soprano soloist and section leader at San Francisco Swedenborgian Church (June 2008-July 2015); Soprano/Violinist in San Francisco Renaissance Voices (2012-2015); Soprano at Calvary Presbyterian in San Francisco. She also performed as Soprano/Soloist at Ojai Music Festival (2014).

Cheryl Cain is a member of the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) and the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). She runs the Merced Manor Music Studio in San Francisco where she teaches voice and violin (since 1993). She currently lives in San Francisco, California.
