The American soprano, Christina Lynch, studied at Churchville- Chili High School (1999-2002). She obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance, summa cum laude (2002-2006) AND her Master of Music degree Vocal Performance (2006-2008) from State University of New York (SUNY) at Fredonia, where she studied with Julie Newell and Daniel Ihasz. She also attended Songfestin Malibu, California (2007); and Berkshire Choral Festival (Scholar) in Sheffield, MA (2011). She is pursuing doctoral studies at Indiana University’s Historical Performance Institute (since 2013). She currently studies with Dr. Steven Rickards. Awards and honors include: Artistic Excellence Fellowship Award, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (2013, 2014); Willi Apel Early Music Award Recipient, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (2013, 2014); Finalist, Kentucky Bach Choir Audrey Rooney Vocal Competition (2014):
A frequent participant in the Bloomington Bach Cantata Project, The Herald-Times praised Christina Lynch's voice as “well-tuned for a historical performance” and celebrated her “passion.” She appears regularly in the Bloomington Early Music Festival, where she recently performed the role of Victoire in Lully’s Proserpine, and La Gloire in Lully’s Armide. While at IU she also performed the role of Anima in Hildegard von Bingen’s Ordo virtutum, and her performances have been heard on NPR’s Harmonia and WFIU’s Classical Music with George Walker.
Outside of Indiana, Christina Lynch has participated in the Queens College Baroque Opera Workshop (2012), portraying Poppea in scenes from L'Incoronazione di Poppea, and the title role in scenes from Rossi’s Orfeo. In 2012 she traveled to Vancouver to participate in the Compleat Singer Vocal Programme at the Vancouver Early Music Festival. In addition to her early music credits, Christina has appeared in concert as soloist with the Buffalo Chamber Players, Western New York Chamber Orchestra, Amherst Symphony, and Lutheran Chorale, and on stage with Nickel City Opera, Opera Sacra, and Indianapolis Opera.
Christina Lynch has taught voice at Canisius College (August 2008-May 2012) and the State University of New York at Fredonia (August 2009 to May 2012). She also worked at Trinity Episcopal Church Bloomington. |
