The English counter-tenor (Singing Teacher/Performance Coach/Musician/Soloist/Consort Singer), Tim Travers-Brown (Timothy Kenworthy-Brown), Studied up to the highest Grades on Piano, Violoncello and Organ - he was a Violoncellist in The Essex Youth Orchestra, and Parish Organist for his father – he even studied the viol for a couple of years with the expert guidance Alison Crum. He gained a Bachelor of Arts Hons degree at Colchester Institute School of Music, with a further year of Postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music with Charles Brett and extensively with Robert Spencer, particularly in events to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the death of Henry Purcell.
Tim Travers-Brown has performed throughout Europe, USA and Japan with many of the world’s leading Ensembles and Directors, including J.S. Bach Cantatas in Tokyo (Bach Collegium Japan (Director: Masaaki Suzuki)), Purcell Odes and Anthems in France and Poland (Paul McCreesh), J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245 in Porto (The Sixteen (Director: Harry Christophers)) and George Frideric Handel's Belshazzar in Ewersbach (Hannoversche Hofkapelle). Opera performances include Gluck’s Orfeo (Lead with Peter Holman, and Emily van Evera), Steffani’s Niobe (cover of ‘Creonte’, Thomas Hengelbrock at ROH), ‘Mopsa’ and ensemble in Purcell’s Fairy Queen and King Arthur (New London Consort and Armonico Touring Opera).
Tim Travers-Brown has also sung with specialized Ensembles, including The Gabrieli Consort (Director: Paul McCreesh), The Feinstein Ensemble and London Bach Singers at Kings’ Place, The Binchois Consort recording with Hyperion (Music from The 100 Years War and The Lily and the Rose), The Dunedin Consort (Director: John Butt) in J.S. Bach's Actus Tragicus BWV 106 (Scottish Tour), Tenebrae (Director: Nigel Short), The Tallis Scholars (Director: Peter Phillips) and Monteverdi Choir (Director: John Eliot Gardiner) (‘Pilgrimage to Santiago’) and with Exaudi and Ensemble Intercontemporain in Poppe’s Interzone, (Cite de la Musique), He has collaborated with lutenists David Miller (International Early Music Network Exhibition), and Jacob Heringman (BBC Radio 3 ‘Early Music Show’) and pianist Jeremy Filsell (Windsor and London). Media performances include G.F. Handel's Messiah for BBC Radio 2, a recital disc of 20th Century British Song ‘The Frostbound Wood’, J.S. Bach's Cantatas with Bach Collegium Japan (BIS), ‘Handel and Companye’ with the ‘Musicke Companye’ (Intim), and three discs with The Parley of Instruments (Hyperion).
Tim Travers-Brown has a busy teaching practice at home, Eton College and Royal Holloway University. He was a Professor of Singing at Trinity Laban Conservatoire for 12 years and taught at Truro School and Cathedral for 3 years. He is a Lay Clerk at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, and was fortunate to sing for the committal of her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the weddings of Princess Eugenie and Prince Harry. |
