The Canadian mezzo-soprano, Rachel Wood, holds a Master of Music in Literature and Performance degree from the University of Western Ontario, where she studied with Dr. Sophie Roland. During her studies at Indiana University, she has performed the roles of Dorabella in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte, Zita in Gianni Schicchi and Alma March in Little Women. She is a recent graduate of the Opera Studio Nederland in Amsterdam. Rachel is currently continuing her vocal studies at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and is a student of Mary Ann Hart.
Rachel Wood's Other opera credits include Madame de Croissy in Francis Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites, Cornelia in George Frideric Handel's Giulio Cesare, Dame Doleful in the Canadian premiere of Edwin Penhorwood's Too Many Sopranos, and Emma Jones in Street Scene. She has performed in Canada, the USA, Italy, and the Netherlands. Most recently, she performed the title role in the Opera Studio Nederland production of Benjamin Britten's The Rape of Lucretia, the roles of La Natura and Endimione in Cavalli's La Calisto, and Penelope in Monteverdi's Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria.
As a recitalist, Rachel Wood has given song and chamber music recitals with the Mountain View Connection concert series in Calgary, Alberta, where she was also a participant of the Mountain View International Festival of Song and Chamber Music. She has performed in several recitals at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, with Encore Vocal Arts in Indianapolis, the Midday Music recital series in Barrie, Ontario, and Songfest recitals in Malibu, California. She has also appeared as a soloist in concert performances in Ontario with the Aradia Ensemble (Director: Kevin Mallon) and Peterborough Singers. |
