The German choral conductor, organist and church musician, Harald Wolff, decided from an early age to become a church musician. He received his training for this profession at the Preußischen Akademie der Künste in Berlin. In 1933 he came to Bremen and found his first job at the Friedenskirche. In 1935 he accepted the position as organist and Kantor at Kirche Unser Lieben Frauen. He had long had a desire to found a boys' choir, but this project could only be realized after the end of World War II and after his return from captivity. And so on September 14, 1945 some boys came sing together for the first time, there are said to have been three, at the Kirche Unser Lieben Frauen - that was the beginning of the Knabenchor Unser Lieben Frauen Bremen. A good three months later, 60 boys were already singing on Christmas Eve and soon the boys' choir could also be heard in regular Vespers and many concerts. Harald Wolff was a Kantor at Kirche Unser Lieben Frauen for 37 years until his age-related retirement in 1972. He retired with his wife Hildur in Hasbergen near Bremen, where he died on May 2, 1997 at the age of 91. |
