Ryan Williams (Tenor)

Born: Southend-on-Sea, England

The English tenor, Ryan Williams, graduated from the University of Chichester with a first class honours degree in music performance (2010-2014). After University he spent 2 years on the choral scholarship scheme at Portsmouth Cathedral and went on to receive a Masters in Music from the Royal Academy of Music (2016-2018) and become a member of the prestigious Royal Academy Opera programme.

Ryan Williams is a highly experienced Choral singer, highlights of which include being member of the inaugural Voces8 Scholarship programme (Director: Barnaby Smith), working with the Gabrieli Consort (Director: Paul McCreesh), The King's Consort (Director: Robert King) and being a member of the Philharmonia Chorus. 

As a soloist, Ryan Williams has performed Oratorio works such as George Frideric Handel's Messiah, Dvorak's Stabat Mater, W.A. Mozart's Requiem, J.S. Bach's B minor Mass (BWV 232), Haydn's Nelson Mass, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, and he performed regularly with the Royal Academy of Music/Kohn Music Foundation's Bach Cantata Series during his studies. In 2019, he performed the role of Evangelist for J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion (BWV 244) conducted by Trevor Pinnock, and also toured South Korea with the Dudok Ensemble.

In 2015 Ryan Williams was a member Glyndebourne Opera Academy under Mary King, which inspired his passion for opera. Ryan’s operatic roles include Le Ducb in Chérubin, La théière, Le petit vieillard, La rainette in L’enfant et les sortilege, Jupiter in Semele, Basilio/Curzio in W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, Acis in Acis & Galatea, Monostatos W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and Tamino in W.A. Mozart's The Magic Flute. His chorus roles include Venus & Adonis, Dido & Aeneas, The Gondoliers, Orphée aux Enfers (RAO), Tristan und Isolde covering Sailor, L.v. Beethoven's Fidelio and Der Fliegende Holländer (Longborough Festival Opera).

Ryan Williams is generously supported by the Josephine Baker Trust, the John and Heather Clemence Charitable Trust and the Mario Lanza Educational Foundation. He currently lives in London, England.
