Virginie Thomas (Soprano)

Born: Limoges, France

The French soprano, Virgine Thomas, studied at the Conservatoire de Toulouse, where she obtained, in 2005, a 1st prize unanimously. In this frame, she perfomed the titles roles of L'enfant et les sortilèges by Maurice Ravel and Alice au pays des Merveilles (Alice in Wonderland) by François Bou, in a scenic version. In 2006, she obtained her professional diploma of early music unanimously, with the congratulations of the jury, after having studied in the class of Jerome Correas. Particularly interested in this repertoire, she participated, the same year, at the Académie Baroque d'Ambronay, in Ercole Amante by Cavalli (second grace), under the direction of Gabriel Garrido.

Virgine Thomas began to participate in the productions of the Choeur de Chambre des Eléments, Le Concert d'Astrée (Director: Emmanuelle Haïm), Les Arts Florissants (Director: William Christie; since 2008), and Choeur de Chambre de Namur (Director: Jean Tubéry). She has sung on stage and in concert under the direction of Jérôme Correas, Joël Suhubiette, Emmanuel Krivine, Jérémie Rhorer, Emmanuelle Haïm, William Christie, Paul Agnew, Claus Peter Flor, Leonardo García-Alarcón, Marc Minkowski, Christophe Rousset, Raphaël Pichon, Mathieu Romano, Sébastien Daucé ... She is also an active member of the Ensemble Marguerite Louise (Director: Gaétan Jarry).

Virgine Thomas played the role of Nymphe in Lully's Armide at the Champs Elysees Theater (William Christie / R. Carsen), the role of Cephise, in concert version in Europe and in New York, in Rameau'S Pygmalion, under the direction of William Christie. She also sang the title role in L'Incoronazione di Poppea in a staging by Catherine Dune. In 2011, she participated in the historic recovery of Atys by Lully with Les Arts Florissants.

In 2012, Virgine Thomas participated in the production of David et Jonathas by Charpentier at the Festival d'Aix en Provence with Les Arts Florissants (2nd Shepherd). She also sang under the direction of Christophe Rousset in Phaëton by Lully (une Heure, la Bergère Egyptienne) including in Beaune, Lausanne, Paris and London. In 2013, after the recapture of David et Jonathas at the Opéra Comique and at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, she performed Daphné in Actéon by M.A. Charpentier at Versailles (William Christie), followed by a shepherdess and in Amadis by J.B. Lully at Versailles and Beaune (Christophe Rousset). She sang Thalie in Platée by Rameau (2014) at the Opéra Comique and Lincoln Center (New York) and participated in the creation of the show "Rameau Maître à danser" with Les Arts Florissants in Caen. This season she is also participating in the productions of Fêtes Vénitiennes by A. Campra in Paris, Caen, New York and Toulouse with Les Arts Florissants, Dardanus by J.P. Rameau in Bordeaux and Versailles with Ensemble Pygmalion (Director: Raphaël Pichon) and Theodora by George Frideric Handel at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées with Les Arts Florissants. She currently lives in Pantin.
