Lara Tan (Soprano)

Born: Singapore

The Singaporean soprano, Lara Rui-Qi Tan, studied in the Raffles Humanities Programme, highly selective academic programme that nurtures students with exceptional talent and passion for the humanities, at Raffles Institution in Singapore (2021-2022), and received the 2022 GCE A-Level Examination Academic Excellence Award. In Singapore she was Freelance opera singer with the premier opera company New Opera Singapore (since 2016), participated in staged opera productions, fundraising galas and outreach events, Spearheaded Youth Opera Company and created online outreach content during the pandemic for increased youth involvement in opera

Lara Tan then moved to the USA, where she studies at Harvard University: Cabot House (since 2023; expected graduation: 2027) for Bachelor's degree with double-concentration in Music and Government, and a Secondary in European History, Politics, and Society. At Harvard, she leads a double life as an opera singer, which has led her to many wonderful adventures and experiences with people from all over the world. She has working knowledge of French, Italian, and German, in addition to English and Chinese. On campus, she is the Junior Choir Secretary of the Harvard University Choir (since August 2025), and performs and directs with the Harvard College Opera, Harvard-Radcliffe Gilbert and Sullivan Players, and the Lowell House Opera. She is also Staff Writer at The Harvard Crimson (since January 2024), and Undergraduate Representative for the Harvard University: Department of Music (since August 2025).
