Murni Suwetja (Soprano)

Born: The Netherland

The Dutch lyrical soprano, Murni Suwetja, completed her musical education in Arnhem and Rotterdam with Elena Vink, Carolyn Watkinson and Meinard Kraak. Currently she coached by by Sami Kustaloglu.

Murni Suwetja is a sought-after ensemble singer and has worked with many different choirs and ensembles, such as the Netherlands Radio Choir, Nederlandse Bachvereniging (Director: Jos van Veldhoven), Choir of the National Reisopera, Collegium Vocale Gent (Director: Philippe Herreweghe), Philharmonischen Chor München, Kammerchor Stuttgart (Director: Frieder Bernius), Kammerchor München and La Chapelle Harmonique (Director: Valentin Tournet). In 2013 she co-operated with the Athesinus Consort Berlin as part of a CD production with music by F. Schwemmer.

Even as a concert soloist, Murni Suwetja has a strong commitment thanks to her wide repertoire. From J.S. Bach to Francis Poulenc, from W.A. Mozart to John Rutter - she performed, among others, the solo parts of J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232), W.A. Mozart's Mass in C Minor and his Requiem. In addition, she has sung in the Netherlands, among others, with the Baroque ensemble 'de Swaen' premieres of Christoph Graupner cantatas and performed under the direction of Klaas Stok numerous J.S. Bach cantatas. In the children's concerts of the Münchner Philharmoniker, she has intervened several times for a program around W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte.

One of her greatest passions, however, remains chamber music. Murni Suwetja specialized in the Western European Lieder while studying for her master's degree at the University of Music in Rotterdam. She then conceived a program of love and lovesickness with pianist Judy Ruks (Stuttgart). In Wageningen (the Netherlands) she finally founded a concert series together with the pianist Mark Toxopeus: the Arboretumconcerten. Here, only chamber music is made, with emphasis on poetic song programs. Hugo Wolf's Italian Songbook, the Spanish program "un concierto con tapas", as well as songs and arias by Dowland and Purcell have been played in past concerts. Meanwhile, the series enters the fourth season and has developed a loyal and open-minded audience. She is now based in Munich.
