Nora Steuerwald (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: August 8, 1993 - Landau in der Pfalz, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

The German mezzo-soprano, Nora Steuerwald, studied singing with Professor Daniela Sindram at the HfM Würzburg and began her master's degree with Professor Carola Guber at the HMT Leipzig in summer 2019. She is the winner of the Internationalen Sächsischen Sängerakademie Torgau 2015 and winner of the Internationalen Bachwettbewerbs CantateBach Greifswald 2017.

Nora Steuerwald is a much sought-after young mezzo-soprano. During her studies she made her operatic debut as Schwertleite in Wagner's Die Walküre at the Oper Chemnitz (since April 2019) and will shortly be seen as Erda in Das Rheingold. At the beginning of the year her first CD "Schubertiade" was released with Lieder by Johannes Brahms, Schubert and Robert Schumann together with Gerold Huber. Her numerous solo activities have taken her to Germany, Switzerland, America, Canada and Israel, among others.

Nora Steuerwald has established herself as a concert singer with the alto parts in J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion BWV 244 and Johannes-Passion BWV 245, Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248; George Frideric Handel's Messiah, Felix Mendelssohn's Elias and Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2, with which she was a guest in the Laeiszhalle Hamburg in 2019.

Nora Steuerwald has developed her excellent ensemble skills in internationally renowned ensembles such as the ChorWerk Ruhr (Director: Florian Helgath), Kammerchor Stuttgart (Director: Frieder Bernius) and the Collegium Vocale Gent (Director: Philippe Herreweghe; since April 2018). Already at the beginning of her studies she made a guest appearance at the Internationalen Händel-Festspielen in Göttingen. At the age of 23, she was a soloist in an SWR radio production of Lindpaintner's Der Vampyr under the direction of Frieder Bernius.
